]]> Metro Manila-based certified public accountants in education participated in an intensive two-day training on Outcomes-Based Education in UST, with experts from the College of Education and the UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy (UST-AMV COA) sharing their insights in the event entitled: “OBE Training for Philippine Accounting Teachers: Revisiting the Theoretical Foundation of Professional Education Grounded on Outcomes-Based Education.” The event, organized with UST by the National Association of Certified Public Accountants in Education (nACPAE), was held from September 14-15, 2023 at the Albertus Magnus Building.

The OBE training was NACPAE’s response to the call of the accounting teachers for a nationwide training on professional education courses. As per CHED Memorandum Order no. 27 s. 2017 Revised Policies, Standards and Guidelines for Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA), all academic staff teaching in the BSA program must have training of professional education courses. The topics discussed during the training are: OBE Policies and Principles; (re)Discovering a ‘multiverse’ of Outcomes in OBE; Uncovering Meaningful Curriculum Content Across Disciplines; Designing Rich Classroom Experiences through Signature Pedagogies; Assessment and OBE: Whys and Hows; Role of learning resources in OBE Planning and Implementation; Constructive Alignment as a Key to OBE Success and Continuous Quality Improvement and OBE.

The UST experts who facilitated the training were College of Education Dean Pilar I. Romero, PhD, Assistant Dean Louie B. Dasas, PhD, College Secretary Alvin Ringgo C. Reyes, MA, as well as academic staff Assoc. Prof. Marishirl P. Tropicales, PhD (concurrent Junior High School Principal), Asst. Prof. Vincent V. Caparas, MaEd, and Asst. Prof. Erlyn Geronimo, MA.

A total of ninety-six accounting teachers from the different schools in the National Capital Region and nearby provinces attended the training. Similar trainings will be conducted by UST experts in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

NACPAE is the the national association of accounting teachers in the Philippines. For Fiscal Year 2023-2024, NACPAE is headed by UST-AMV COA Assistant Dean, Inst. Francisco M. Caliwan, Jr., MBA, MSPA, as its President.

]]> Ten pre-service student teachers from three universities in Indonesia are currently in an immersion program at UST College of Education. The student teachers were welcomed by College of Education Dean Assoc. Prof. Pilar I. Romero, Ph.D., and other academic officials on September 2, 2019 at the Lourdes J. Custodio ICD Room, St. Albertus Magnus Building.

The academic visit was part of the SEA Teacher Project or the “Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA),” which provides opportunities for pre-service student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to have their practicum in other schools within the SEA region. 

The ten students were: Chrisna Purbaya and Kartilia Riavuningsih from the University of Bengkulo; Risky Supriati, Ika Safitri, and Misbahul Aslam from Tanjungpura University; Aulia Afani Zuifiana Sari and Muwafiqul Ihsani from Universitas PGRI Semarang; and Mayang Kencana, Kirey Kharisma Aulia, and Arsanti Satriani Salim from Indonesia University of Education. They will be in the University until September 27, 2019.

In the welcome program, UST College of Education International Relations Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Zendel Taruc, Ph.D., delivered the welcome remarks, while UST Office of Public Affairs Director Assoc. Prof. Giovanna V. Fontanilla, Ph.D., presented the institutional video “The Ƶapp: A Legacy of Excellence and Endurance.” Office for Student Affairs Staff-in-Charge for Student Formation Ms. Thelma Maraña discussed “Student Life in UST.”

Lectures on “Brain-based Teaching and Learning” was delivered by UST Junior High School Principal Assoc. Prof. Marishirl P. Tropicales, Ph.D., while “Assessment and Evaluation” was discussed by UST Junior High School Mathematics Department Faculty Member Mr. Vincent Caparas. 

UST College of Education Dean Assoc. Prof. Pilar I. Romero, Ph.D., delivered the closing remarks.

The program is spearheaded by Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), a regional intergovernmental organization established in 1965 among governments of Southeast Asian countries to promote regional cooperation in education, science and culture within the region. The Philippines is one of its eleven member nations.

]]> A total of 121 faculty members were recognized in the areas of Arts and Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Health and Allied Sciences, Science and Technology, and Sacred Sciences by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation during the Recognition Program held on March 16, 2018 at the Paredes Building, UST. They were granted the Gold Series Award and the Silver Series Award for AY 2014 to 2016 and the International Publications Award for AY 2014-2017. UST Secretary-General Rev. Fr. Jesús M. Miranda, Jr., O.P., and Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation , assisted by the directors of the respective research centers gave the awards.

The Gold and Silver Series awards are granted to faculty members in recognition of their research productivity and leadership in their respective fields of specialization within the period covered by the award. These awards are based on research publications (author by-line should indicate the Ƶapp as address in the publication), ongoing research involvement, and tenure in the University.

The Gold Series

The awards, given every two years come in two categories: Research Category and Creative Works Category. The Gold Series Award Research Category is granted to tenured full-time faculty member with Ph.D. or M.D., with teaching load, and exclusively teaching in UST except for faculty affiliates of the UST Graduate School, authored at least five research papers published in refereed journals/ scholarly books in the last five years, with at least two of these published, one of which is an international (Web of Science/ Scopus) publication, or has one patent or utility model granted, within the period covered by the award, or, authored at least two scholarly books in the last five years, with one of these published within the period covered by the award, with ongoing research under the Research Center or Research Unit of the University, and, with at least one research disciple.

Under the Creative Works Category, the awardee should be a tenured full-time faculty member with Ph.D., with teaching load, and exclusively teaching in UST except for faculty affiliates of the UST Graduate School, authored at least three creative or critical works in the last five years, with at least one of these published within the period covered by the award, and, with ongoing studies (creative projects) under the Research Center or Research Unit of the University.

The Silver Series

Under the Research Category of the Silver Series, the award is given to tenured full-time faculty member with M.Sc. or M.A., with teaching load, and exclusively teaching in UST, must have authored at least three research papers published in refereed journals/scholarly books in the last five years, with at least one of these published, or has one patent or utility model granted, within the period covered by the award or, authored at least one scholarly book in the last five years published within the period covered by the award and, with ongoing research under the Research Center or Research Unit of the University. Under the Creative Works Category, the faculty member must be tenured full-time faculty member with M.Sc. or M.A., with teaching load, and exclusively teaching in UST, must have authored at least two creative or critical works in the last five years, with at least one of these was published within the period covered by the award, and, with ongoing studies (creative projects) under the Research Center or Research Unit of the University. A Research disciple refers to junior faculty members, graduate students, medical interns, and medical residents.

International Publications Award (2014–2017)

The International Publications Award is presented to all full time faculty members teaching only in UST for the publication of their research outputs in journal/s and books indexed in the Web of Science/ Scopus with IF Quartile Metrics Ranking. Author byline should indicate the Ƶapp as address in the publication.
