Prof. Leilani B. Mercado-Asis received her B.S. Medical Technology and Medicine degrees from the 鱿鱼视频app in Manila in 1977 and 1981, respectively. She received her Ph.D. in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Gifu School of Medicine in Gifu, Japan, in 1992 and Masteral degree in Public Health from the University of the Philippines Open University in Manila in 2010. She completed Masteral studies in Distance Education major in Instructional Design at Athabasca University in Canada in 2020. Her primary research interests and original studies involve secondary hypertension due to pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, and primary hyperaldosteronism, pathophysiology and clinical and public health implications of pre-impaired glucose tolerance, and medical nutrition therapy in type 2 DM using automatic snacking. She conceptualized and established innovative approaches for excellent glycemic control of diabetes through PRN (as needed) insulin injection both for patients on anti-DM tablets and insulin injection, an economical approach of treatment for benign nontoxic multinodular goiter using serial 131Iodine therapy, characterization of postprandial dyslipidemia among Filipinos and use of orlistat to address the problem. She has received national and international recognition for her scientific undertakings and authored and co-authored scientific work published in notable peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Mercado-Asis has recently engaged in medical education research. She developed Target-Oriented Clinical Skill Enhancement (TOCSE), a teaching and learning tool that connects didactic knowledge to clinical application.
