This Leptospirosis clinical practice guidelines (CPG) was published after the Philippines was ravaged by massive flooding in succession by typhoons “Ondoy and Peping” in 2009 causing a leptospirosis outbreak. It is anticipated that leptospirosis will continue to re-emerge in the country as a result of rapid urbanization, deforestation, poor sanitation and increased incidence of typhoons brought about by climate change. The Leptospirosis taskforce composed of the member Philippine Society of Nephrology (PSN) , Philippine Society of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (PSMID) and Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP) immediately formulated the clinical practice guideline intended to guide health care practitioners in the early recognition, prompt management and prevention of leptospirosis and its complications in primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities. At present, an updated guideline is about to be published by the end of the year to which Dr. Marcial is a major part of.

It included most of the emergent obstetric complications that contribute considerably to loss of both maternal and perinatal lives. Dr. Marcial was asked to contribute to the chapter on fluid and blood replacement therapy in obstetrical hemorrhage complication this being the most common cause of maternal mortality.
